I just put a new trans in my Talon and I cant select gears. My clutch feels wierd but I am not sure if its because its a Exedy Stage 1 clutch and Im used to my shot stock clutch lol. Im really at a loss with this and really dont want to drop the trans again. Im really considering just selling the damn thing even though I really dont want to. This car stresses me out lol. Also when I roll the car in neutral with the car off, every couple feet I can hear a grinding noise. I installed my clutch with the wrong alignment tool but Im 99% sure its aligned properly because the transmission bolted up. As far as I know if you dont have the clutch aligned right the trans wont even bolt up. My hanes manual said to torque the pressure plate bolts anywhere between 11 to 16 pounds, I tourqued it to 180 inch pounds which is equivelant to 15 pounds. I can manually put the trans into gear from the transmission but not from inside the car with the shifter. Anyone know what may be going on here?

Have you checked your shift linkage? or shift cables for fraying ? or the bracket that holds the shift cables to the transmission ? do you have the rear mount bolted up ? the exedy stage1 clutch is not going to cause that issue. I would say if you had an ACT 2600 then possible.

Is the trans out of the same year car? Diff year trans require eother diff shifter cables or shifter base. As well as the connectors on the trans.

It isn't the cables. It's an engagement issue. Common problem for people when replacing the clutches on these cars. Guess it doesn't matter now tho

Ya we ended up figuring out that it was hydraulic related.
