Gonna start my rebuild.
So my license is suspended till june and Im going to pick up my Talon on friday. Its in need of some work and I want to start with the engine. Ive never done a rebuild before and I have no idea really of what Im about to do. Im gonna rely on my fellow DSMers on this site to help walk me through it. Is there anyone who would be willing to come give me a hand and show me a thing or two? Im gonna be slowly buying the tools that I need over the next few weeks. Engine stand, cherry picker and things like that. Could someone give me a list of tools I will need. Like specific tools. Like I said never done this before... just gonna wing it and hope to learn some stuff.

Re: Gonna start my rebuild.
If it was a 420a I could tell you what size wrenches you would need but I don't know anything about the 1g's

Re: Gonna start my rebuild.
I know I talked to you a little bit about this but I'd like to repeat myself publicly and add a few things. Here is a short list of things you will need.
Wrenches
Ratchets
Sockets
TORQUE WRENCH
Screw Drivers
Pliers
Tin Snips
Razor Blades (for removing gaskets)
Ziplock baggies (for organizing nuts/bolts/screws)
Sharpie (for labeling the baggies)
Engine Lift
2 Floor Jacks
2 Haynes Manuals (one for information purposes and the other for supporting the engine via the oil pan so you don't dent the pan with the jack)
As for parts, buy everything you need from ExtremePSI.com . You will need the following...
Complete Engine Gasket Set- Both bottom end and top end gasket sets. They will have a package that includes both.
Bearings- Main bearings and rod bearings.
Plasigauge- Buy this from your local parts store. It's like less than a dollar for one strip. If you do not know how to use plastigauge, cal me.
Rods and Pistons- Figure out what you want to use. I would not use the ones you take out. Many options.
Oil and Filter- Cheap shit because you are only going to use the first set of oil for 20 mins.
RTV
Lots and lots of carb or brake cleaner.
Engine degreaser
Id also advise you to buy a new crank or at lease mic yours out and see if its within spec.
Theres a lot more. I will update when I can.

Re: Gonna start my rebuild.
This is what I wore on my truck head gasket project...
Garage + Wife = no garage
But I raised some hell and now I get to buy a shed and turn the garage into a shop. Only thing I "have to" do is turbo her truck... like I needed a reason.

Lmao jared! Thats how its done.
Kurt, sorry about your loss. Also, those new plugs might help with your studdering problem too. Definitely wont hurt.

Brakleen and lots of it
Brushes for cleaning
Paint if necessary
razor blades
silicone and lots of it
Pressure washer to degrease parts
