    1G 1993 Eclipse GS 4g63nt

    Post by 93blackeclipse

Well it all started back in 2008 after I graduated high school, Instead of having my mom and dad buy me a car. I took my grad money and bought a 1993 Eclipse GS 4g63nt for $600.00. The previous owner told me it juss needed a soft plug in the back of the motor. So I bought it, put a new starter and soft plug in and went to start it. But when I poured the antifreeze in it all drained out the coolant pipe in the front of the motor. so I replaced it off the spare motor I had bought for $200.00 (6-bolt nt). Well we finally got it to start, but it was knocking, and ticking like no other. So we pulled the head off and found out that the previous owner hadnt told me he drove it with out the soft plug in it and worped the head and blew the headgasket.

Heres pics from when I first got it.

I just cannot believe the difference in the before and after pics. You did one hell of a job and definitely saved this 1G. It is looking really good.

I am glad you didn't give up and abandon her like most do- especially with the NA's.

Keep us updated. I think you have a great shot at the next ROTM award.

Thanks man! yah its definatley taken along time. but its better do to it right the first time. haha i will try and get some recent pics of the motor today. i reall wish my engine bay was a lil cleaner but it will have to do for now.

    I know how that is.

I just got back from buying some spray paint, sand paper, Purple Power, and other stuff.

Painting my other VC, cleaning the bay with the Purple Power, then removing a shit ton of stuff so I can paint the engine bay.

Yah i know right. Everytime i go to work on my car, I end up doing 5 times more than what i planned on doing. And if i fix one thing, 10 more pop up haha. I have been offered many times to sell my 1g but i juss cant part with it.

Yea buddy. That's how it usually works haha.

Glad to see there is a special bond between you and the car.

    Post Sat Jun 23, 2012 8:33 pm by 93blackeclipse

Ya i first had seen the car back in 2004 and i had got the money together went to go and buy it. but i was juss in time to watch the new owner drive away with it (previous owner i bought it from).

Oh wow that's crazy. And you STILL ended up with it.
    93blackeclipse

    Post Sat Jun 23, 2012 10:18 pm by 93blackeclipse

Ya i know it must have been ment to be! Very Happy The previous owner beat the hell out of it. He hit a curb on the drivers side in the winter trying to "drift". I put a new control arm on, new tie rods, new struts.
    93blackeclipse

    Post Sun Jun 24, 2012 5:27 pm by 93blackeclipse

And I cant take all the credit for the rebuild. I had help from my brother, since iam still kind of a newb you know. But we all start out as newbs. I have learned alot from working on my own cars.

Glad to see you got her all fixed up, man.

We all have to start from scratch and learn at some point. It's the ones that don't give up that end up doing some great things with DSM's.

That 1g came out very nice. Always a fan of a clean 1g! Ive had 3 myself and I must say I love them. What are your future plans with it?
    93blackeclipse

    Post Mon Jun 25, 2012 7:33 pm by 93blackeclipse

Well this winter i wanna pull everything back out and turbo it with a 14b for now and eventually run a bigger turbo iam shooting for 350-400 hp. I want to run 2g pistons and 1g rods. but first i juss want to boost it and drive it for a while. Than i will start going bigger and better.

Find some Evo 8 or 9 pistons. I got some for $100, but then sold them. You will have to get your wrist pins machined 1mm larger to accept the 6 bolt rod. They are semi forged from the factory.
    92tsifwd

    Post Tue Jun 26, 2012 1:37 am by 92tsifwd

Sounds like a good plan. Id just buy a turbo motor and just build it how u want and then run the one you got till it blows or till ur built one is ready. Then throw the built one in and rebuild and sell the old one. Just a suggestion.
    93blackeclipse

    Post Tue Jun 26, 2012 10:31 am by 93blackeclipse

Yah i thought about that too. but if i can find one for a decent price i would. It juss seems that anyone with a turboed dsm around here wants way to much for one. I have been keeping an eye out for one.
    92tsifwd

    Post Tue Jun 26, 2012 12:32 pm by 92tsifwd

Ya I hear you on that! I found mine for a steal, but its also been a money pit too.
    93blackeclipse

    Post Tue Jun 26, 2012 12:38 pm by 93blackeclipse

Haha ya. But you gotta pay to play. Lol. Ya i had found one a couple monthes back but the guy wanted $3,000.00. The body was beat, high miles and yah just not worth it. And every jy i have checked dont have a 4g63t. Alot of 1.8 and 2.0nt. So hopefully before winter i can find one for a decent price.
    AJracer33a

    Post Tue Jun 26, 2012 5:29 pm by AJracer33a

Hey, those 1.8's in the JY are valuable too. Non cruise cable and OEM Mitsubishi EGR block-off plates to name a couple =P
    93blackeclipse

    Post Tue Jun 26, 2012 8:04 pm by 93blackeclipse

Ya thats for sure. I ordered my non cruise cable from extremepsi. The closest junk yard from me is about 100 miles away that has any dsm's.

make sure your careful putting a turbo setup onto a N/T motor. plenty of people do it, but i wouldn't turn up the boost too much, as its just asking for problems. especially if you aren't prepared, or don't have the money to pick up another motor when that one blows.
    93blackeclipse

    Post Tue Jun 26, 2012 10:30 pm by 93blackeclipse

Well when i plan on pulling my motor iam going to get 2g pistons with 1g rods, evo oil squirters, all the gauges to monitor everything, bigger injectors and fuel pump, fpr, knock sensor, turbo ecu(already have),mas, intercooler, bov, down pipe,o2 housing, exhaust mani, turbo(already have),act clutch, flywheel, turbo transmission(already have). Iam sure we have more stuff int the garage but thats just off the top of my head. anything else anyone would suggest?

sounds like you have done all of your research. props for that man! i can't tell you how many people don't do their research, and thats 99% of the reason DSMs have the reputation that they do! I'm sure you will come across some small things as your doing the build that you'll need. but it sounds like you have the basics.
    93blackeclipse

    Post Tue Jun 26, 2012 10:39 pm by 93blackeclipse

Ya i have done alot of research. Haha. I know i will run into small things, I already have with the nt. And u have it right when you say ppl dont do the reasearch and how dsm's have the rep they do. I have got into it with many ppl cause they think dsm's arnt reliable. Its all in the up keep and maintence that you do to them. Just like any othe car. Thank you.

upkeep, maintenance, and doing things right the first time! a lot of DSMers also think they can throw a 50 trim on, with a stock fuel system, run 30psi, and not have an issue... Shocked

Haha. Ya i know right, if people would just take the time to research and not be scared to ask questions they would spend half the money and know the RIGHT way to do things.
    cl1ckclack

    Post Tue Jun 26, 2012 10:53 pm by cl1ckclack

yup. this is completely true, and if they didn't have such big dreams with small budgets, and think it was attainable, this wouldn't happen. a lot of people don't realize what kind of money proper supporting mods cost.
    93blackeclipse

Exzactly. Gotta have the money to go fast. Thats for sure.

Glad to hear. Do you know where the fuel pump test connector is?

    http://www.eatsleepdsm.com/h26-quadrant-1

In the pic, there is a red dot on the left of the battery terminal. This is where it is located.

Your Hayne's Manual or similar will show this, where it is, and how to test it.

The thing isn't set up in THROTTLE yet.

His "down the road" plans are to go boosted, yes. But I think his intentions are to keep it NA for a little while.

    But then again, plans change.
