Few years back i come across a Colt GTi, Dubai edition, here in Croatia.
Only three of them were imported back in 90es, so you can image that these kind of cars are really rare here.
The engine was 4G61, 1.6 N/A with 125hp. Here are the pic of the car when it arrived.
As you can see the car was OK but the bad things was the paint that oxidised and windshield was scratched by wipers.
Dubai edition Colt has a SUPERTOP roof and air condition but no power steering.
In meantime we found Eclipse 1G from '91 with 4G63 turbo engine that wasn't originally installed but swapped with original 1.8L.
Eclipse wasn't in so good condition so we agreed to get the engine out and put it into Colt.
Here are the pics, they will best tell the story.
Here was the Eclipse:
And then the work on the cars began!
First it was the Eclipse. We had to get out all the parts that we needed for putting the engine in Colt.
Here how it started!
First the engine.
The engine was out. We took the stock intercooler, wiring, oil cooler, axles, power steering pump and some other thingies.
Then it was time to suit up the engine!
I got Fidanza alu flywheel, exedy stage 1 clutch kit and OBX crank pulley. And regular stuff, new strainer, belts, water pump etc etc.
Then it was Colt's turn
Back in the garage:
Get the engine out.
Then it was a wire party!
Had to add additional wires onto original wiring in Colt.
After putting it back in it was time for new engine to slip into a new suite
Patient survived
We made a hole for intercooler hose.
Fitted oil cooler.
Eat some
Putted temporary intercooler.
And we connected all the dots and started her up
And we putted power steering from Lancer GLXi and strut bars in front and in back of the car.
That was it for the first round. The main thing was to swap the engines. Now it was time for some cosmetic detailing
I painted those strips on all sides and ordered corner lights on ebay from '89 Eagle Summit. As you know the paint is horrible so i tried to freshen it up a bit by polishing it.
I want to do the hole new paint job but at the moment i work on the car as much as my paycheck allows me
So the polishing is a good option for now. Ah yes, i bought new rims and tires, fited the corner lights, 2.75" exhaust with only middle muffler, i bought brand new original windshield that came all the way from Japan , and here is the result.
After that I tinted the glass.
Got the BlackDiamond rotors.
And that is it.
The car drives for more then 6200 miles.
I had only one problem.. I blame the hard clutch for it, I'm not violent
All that was lovely, but I wanted more
Again nothing from painting the car, money goes for parts
Waiting on D2 coilovers and Rota Slipstream rims.
Here is the plan:
FP 68HTA turbo
GSC Power Division S1 Cams 268°/268°
Ispusna grana FP race manifold
Wiseco pistons and Eagle rods
Evo 3 O2 housing
JMF Street version intake manifold
Adjustable cam gears
Cometic head gasket
850cc injectors
ECMLink V3
Speed Density
Greddy RZ bov
AFPR
FMIC
And some more thingies.
For now this has arrived:
Turbo, cams, pistons and few other stuff are at my friend in US, waiting to be shipped (need to gather the money )
Some things are on the way as we speak.
I will need KAAZ lsd or qualife.. That will go in next round.
The best would be to get AWD but as I say there are no GSX or AWD Colts here..
But who knows, maybe one day.. I'm planing on moving to Canada by the end of the year so we will see..
So for now the engine is basically stock.
So with flywheel, exhaust and cam gear pulley, I got out 217hp.
I know that is not impressing but with future mods I hope it will be better
Thats it for now. When all the parts are here we gonna strip down the engine and start the rebuild and ill post on progress.
Thnx for reading
P.s.
Ah yes.. here are few movies, nothing special..
Here you cant see much only hear
Missed 4th.
With my friend on street race.. He is 4G67.
The day was bloody hot, street tires and no rubber road.. Drove 15.000.. The car was over heating..
When it is cold I manage to drive 14.0x

Great log man, nice pics, and videos, only thing i woulda did differnt is put the battery in the trunk, i enjoy my engine bay space
Thanks. Yes i forgot to write that up.. Batter will go to trunk, because there is really no space under the hood
Im in the middle of swapping my battery to the trunk of my Spyder, in the process of building my battery box, its big enough to hold any battery, and its made out of diamond plate , just need to weld it now, pieces are cut, once i weld it tomorrrow and paint it to match the color, ill upload a pic so you can check it out, ill also put the deminsion incase you are thinkin about building one
That would be so great. I would really appreciate it and that will help me a lot! Tnx
Nice build man. You know the weight of your ride? Looks like it would be lighter than a 1G...
It definitely is lighter than a 1g. At least a tsi awd or gsx. There were a few at the shootout the year i went. They were very quick. Once they are gutted, they weigh next to nothing.
This is so cool that you joined our site and i love your project log. You have great ideas planned ahead and i cant wait to see more of your project log!

i kind of want one now!! nice log and cant wait to see your future plans!
Love the Colt man great work. Not a big fan of these cars but yours is now an exception. I bet its quick. One thing that really chaps my ass is how that car had a 1.6L 125HP and the 1.8L 4g37 only has 92 HP. That bothers me, alot. Ive lawn mowers with more HP than the 4g37 lol.
Hahahaha. You make a valid point.
Thank you all for suport and kind words! I appreciate it
@Shake_Zulla - The car weights around 2300lbs with everything.
The roof itself it is very heavy due to reinforcement and the glass.
But I will take out as much as possible once we start the rebuild.
Friend of mine has the basic model plus we pooled everything out and now he is at 1750lbs. With a basically stock engine like mine he runs 13.3.
For 4g37.. well... yeah Donno what were they thinking with that engine.. Colts GTi came with 4g61 1.6(123hp) and 4g67 1.8 (136hp) here in Europe.
I cant wait to start working on the engine, but I still need some stuff like injectors, eagle rods, SD bundle, intake manifold, O2 housing, rewire kit, all kinds of bearings, KN filter with intake pipe to turbo.. and that is pretty much it.. And then drag it all the way to Croatia

Damn! Thats a thousand pounds less than my tsi awd weighs.
Ive never even heard of the 4g67 engine, thats pretty cool and makes descent power for a 1.8L SOHC.
Keep the build going man. Hope you get your parts soon.

Holy hell 2300lbs?!?! Thats a 2g RS... plus 400lb. Yeah man strip her down! Also thanks for using lb instead of kilos as we are ignorant Americans
The 4g67 is DOHC 1.8.. 4g6X DOHC family (4g61, 4g63, 4g67) they all look the same basically.
Haha, no problem Zulla I know you guys measure weight in lbs and since I'm a minority here, I have to adapt Google is my friend
Yes the car needs to lose some serious weight

Its DOHC? Wow. Thats so awesome! And about the same HP as the 4g63 NA engine.
They werent thinking at all with the 4g37. Its a wast of aluminum and metal IMO. But..... I would like to build one and boost it just for shits.
Idk how i missed this log, but that car is so0000 clean. I had summitt back in the day. Non turbo, but peppy for what it was. If i had known I could of turbo'd that sucker....sigh. Instead I decided to see how long it would take to kill the car. I drained all the oil, all the coolant. Put a brick on the gas pedal and let her go. 4 hours she ran like that. I gave up before she did.
Got new rims.
Rota Slip Stream 7x15 wiht Yokohama S Drive.
Rota Slip Stream 7x15 wiht Yokohama S Drive.
Looks pretty good! I am assuming my drain pipe got to you ok?
Still waiting on it Should arrive any day now..
Wow! That shit takes forever to make its way out there. Knew it would take a while but not this long.
Great job on the swap! That looks amazing compared to when you first got it. Whats your plans for it now?
Plans are:
68HTA, wiseco/eagle combo, GSC S1 cams, ecmlink, 850cc injectors, 255 walbro, afpr, new cam gears etc etc..
I'm only missing injectors and eagle rods, and few bearings and other thingies like valve seals and stuff. Rest is here.
In few months we will start with upgrade.

Holy shit!!! I'm super jealous!!! I'm digging this colt man! I love old school Mitsus!!!
Glad to see you back on the site!
Congrat's on becoming a father!
That is a helluva list of new parts. I've never heard of the GSC S1 cams, you will have to let me know how you like it. Those Innovate wide bands are the best IMO, better than the leading AEM wide band.

The 1.8 is SOHC and the 1.6 in the colt is DOHC
Thank you AJracer33a.
My son should be born on 4th of March.
For GSC S1 cams, they mostly use them in Evos (there are S2 and S3 also).
S1 are 268/268. I think it would fit in good in my setup. I think S2 (272/272) would be to big for me atm.
About Innovate.. ECMLink guys recommended to use LC1 with SD setup, so I listened to them and got with it.
They said AEM doesn't work always good with speed density.

4G37 is 1.8 SOHC that came in Eclipse and I think in Galant (depends on the market).
4G67 is 1.8 DOHC that came in Colt/Mirage and also Galant.
4G61 is 1.6 DOHC that I had in my Colt. Euro Colts GTi came with 1.8, mine wasn't for Euro market.
It was imported from Dubai area.

The Innovate wide bands are calibratable. And they come with a little L.E.D. light that you can mount where ever. It tells if it is working properly.
AEM was the best wideband on the market for what seems like forever. Till Innovate came along. Now, AEM doesn't look so great.
Any baby names picked out yet? I named my daughter with two middle names. Daytona Star-Morgan. Notice the initials
Haha nice!!
My son will be called just Luka.
